I came across this marvelous form of functional folk art watching a travel show. As we all know, modern beekeeping was developed in Slovenia – a former Yugoslavian state, in the Tyrollian region of Europe.

These graphical gems, used for centuries, are simple painted wooden slats, marking the bee's doorway into their hives. The art ranges from customary religious iconography to fantasic allegory, and is not only bee-lieved to promote good luck, but also to help the bees "remember" where they live!

Honey, I'm totally buzzed by this!
