The latest news March 17, 2006

Posted by whatacharacter in 3D, just my blogs, life.

On the job front I interviewed for an internship with a local educational multimedia company, very similar to Videodiscovery who I worked years for. The good news is that it looks like I’m hired and will be paid on a professional scale for some contract work, based on my experience and portfolio! That part is great, and better than I could have imagined, even having the option to work from home, plus it’s part time so as not to interfere with school.

Now the downside. It isn’t work in 3D, or even Photoshop, rather 2D vector and Flash illustration, which is on a lower priority career-wise, alongside print design and typography. I haven’t used Flash in years, but had thought I’d like to, so now I get the chance – only my version 5 wont open the MX version templates they send me!! 😮 To actually get hired I need to produce a small animated feature which is a bit more complex than I had hoped, and so I guess I’ll need to do it all from scratch.

Also, I’ll need to re-learn Freehand to do this job, since my much preferred Illustrator was sadly on my fried Mac 😦

I have yet to delve into all this, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can get it all figured out and it’ll come together easily…

Combine this with the MAJOR end of quarter 3D projects due next week, plus a freelance design job, a video project in the works, and I’ve been – and will continue to be – a very busy puppy …well it keeps me off the streets !!!!

*YAY* My very first 3D Character is basically all modeled, mapped, and textured, tho’ no where near perfection. Getting set to rig him to bones for animation. For practice, I did all the key animation poses with a bone-skeleton (called a biped), so hopefully I can call up those files and import them into my rigged character, so I wont have to do it all over again. Practice is always good, doing things over & over, but there’ only so much time in the day.

Which is why I havent posted for a week & need to get back to it!

Ouch, sounds like a lot of crunch learning to get through there, but congrats on the position! Hope you can pull it off. I never liked flash. I made a couple of really basic animations, and just about figured out some basic action script, but I’ve not touched it for a good few years. 🙂

hey dio! Thanks, and it looks like a contract will come through, now that my Flash ‘trial’ is over. It wasn’t too hard to figure out Flash – just knowing a bit about it in the past helped. Plus, as I say, after learning a 3D program nothing seems quite as daunting!
